Why were they so adamant about this right when so many of today’s thinkers feel that the idea of carrying a weapon is repugnant? Because they understood these truths to be self evident – that all men were created, but Sam Colt made them equal.

The only real authority in life is the real threat of violence. When someone points a gun in your face, he has let you know in no uncertain terms what his intentions are. In that moment, you could be the wealthiest, most educated, debonair cat in the entire world living in the most civilized town in the most civilized country – you could have every law in the world on your side – the penalty he could face might be death, but none of that matters. Why? Because all he has to do is pull that trigger and it all goes away.

And he is everywhere – waiting, lurking, looking for the weak, the ignorant, and the unprepared. And he always will be. But what keeps him at bay – what keeps him from controlling your life is that every once in a while, when he and his ilk point that gun, they encounter the right sort of person. The person that knows the feel of steel against their hip, that has drawn their weapon a thousand times, that slips it from safe to semi without thought, that fires that tight shot group, that protects their life, their liberty, their happiness.

All the muscle in the world can’t stop a bullet. Luckily, for the good guys and gals, that rule works both ways.
