Cool Letters From Fans
We get a lot of letters from the field that we really appreciate. But this isn't a Ranger Up "Love Fest". We're only going to publish letters that we feel are really more for all soldiers, marines and sailors, and not just for us. There are some great people out there that really just want to pat the U.S. Armed Forces on the back and let them know that they really appreciate you. That's what this is for.

Postcard from the Sandbox

This fine soldier found time between terrorist-hunting and door-kickin' to shoot us a postcard from the US Military's favorite sandy vacation spot. Always flattering, and you gotta love the "Apocalypse Now" reference on the front. He writes:

"Dear sir,

Just got back from 3 day away trip to every shit hole from Victory to Mosul and I had your new 'There I was...' tshirt waiting. Thanks for that. It's really excellent. Much appreciated. All my best and looking forward to making more orders.

Sincerely - *************."

[Ranger Up will always respect the anonymity of its door-kicking fans unless instructed otherwise]

Love Letter From a Hippie

My Darling Boyz of Ranger Up,

You Fuckin' Rock! That's right, I'm a liberal, hippie freak.who happens to think y'all are Fuckin' Faboo, as are ALL of your T-Shirts, "Whiner" be damned! Of course, that may well be because I'm both the Daughter and Granddaughter of Veterans. Long before I went off to attend UC Davis, bought my first pair of Birkenstocks and made my first of three pilgrimages to Burning Man, I was raised and loved by a:

Father who served in the Navy during Vietnam and then another 25 years on the streets of Oakland, CA as a Police Officer

Mother who devoted so much of her time to the Oakland Navy League that she often referred to the Abe Lincoln as her ship and could join Tailhook if she wanted (Dad was beyond jealous on that one)

Grandfather who, as a Navy Corpsman, not only survived Guadalcanal, but was decorated for crawling through the muck and the mire, over enemy lines, to retrieve fallen Marines and then retired 20+ years later as a CPO

So let's just say that no matter how much incense I burn, 215 I smoke and nekkid, moonlight dances I offer up to the Goddess (Ok, so I made that last one up) there's no exorcising the Patriot in me. In fact, my Freedom to be who I am only strengthens my Patriotism. And so, as I laughed my way through your website, I found the need to let you and all your Brothers and Sisters who Serve know: THIS Hippie understands that the World we currently live in requires Warriors. THIS Hippie understands that those Warriors will give the Ultimate. THIS Hippie is beyond Thankful for your Service and Sacrifice. I thank you and think of you every night as I curl up under my warm covers, safe and cozy with my beloved Black Lab cuddled up next to me.

With all my Love and Respect,

Krysta

P.S. Oh ya, how did THIS Hippie happen to stumble across the Ranger Up page? It happened several clicks after Googling "Randy Shugart" and "Gary Gordon". I read Bowden's book over 5 years ago and the names and silent faces in black and white still draw my finger to them with whispered thanks. What your Brothers did in Mogadishu, why they did it and how they did it, serves as my own personal reminder of what now happens on a daily basis in Afghanistan and Iraq.
