Some People Hate the Troops

Through the magic of Google Alerts, we like to monitor what people are saying about us on the net. It’s generally a 70/30 split. Pro-military sites like our stories and shirts and extreme liberal sites hate us.

We at Ranger Up are apolitical. We really are. Certainly, we tend to have more Republican and Independent guys involved than Democrats just given our backgrounds, but we really do our best to separate all that out from what our core mission is – to support the troops.

We have no problem with someone saying, “I think Iraq was a bad idea.” We have no problem with someone saying, “I am going to vote for Barack Obama.” We don’t even have a problem with someone blasting the President. Hey – it’s America people – you can believe whatever you want! We don’t have to agree with you!

But we do have a problem with extremists. And on the left side of the U.S. political equation – extremism looks something like this guy, Mr. Violentacres, that Google Alerts led us to here on reddit.com.

It’s very easy for people, even Liberal Democrats, to pretend that people like Mr. Violentacres here only exist in the world of Rightist propaganda, but as we get emails from these pseudo-intellectual oxygen thieves every day, we figured we’d bring it to your attention to give you a flavor for the absurd wickedness that a small but growing number of Americans feel towards the Armed Forces.

We post this simply to remind people, from both sides of the political fence, that it is we, the rational, hard-working Americans that prevent the terrible treatment of our troops that returned from Vietnam from reoccurring. The anti-troop movement still exists, often masked for political expediency by the larger organizations like Code Pink and MoveOn, but it is still there, waiting for the opportunity to surface and return to the mainstream.

Whether you believe in our current conflicts abroad or not, the troops do not make the call. Their desire to serve is honorable. They stand at posts at home and abroad so we do not have to. To not appreciate that, even if you question the veracity of our politicians’ arguments, goes beyond simple ignorance, it shows a gross lack of understanding of how our society is intertwined. Food and security are the two most basic elements for successful civilization. No other job is possible without them. Productive farming is borne from a secure environment. Commerce and an education infrastructure are borne when a steady food supply is available and people do not have to commit their time to gathering food. Commerce, in turn, supports the ability of a government to be effective through taxation. Education allows for innovation, which increases the ability of a nation to produce more food and grow commerce. Taxes raised allow for the government to supply police departments, fire departments, and the military.

This is sort of Civilization 101. I’d like to think that most of us appreciate everyone’s contribution in this circle. I really hope I am not wrong. Mr. Violentacres appears to have forgotten that he can do something to help all of us idiots come around to his way of thinking. You hate our policy? Elect someone else. Pressure our politicians. Heck, run for office and SERVE. Don’t bash our troops. It shows nothing but unadulterated ignorance and a lack of character.

Nothing I say will change these people’s minds. That’s not my intention at all. I simply want to remind you that they exist and that we need to be aware of that existence, lest we allow our country to repeat the failure of our past generation to protect those that protect us.

As for Mr. Violentacres and his ilk, luckily for these Ramoras of American society, the good people of America, through successful commerce, farming, and security have allowed them to exist, even though their value, unlike that of the rest of our society, is quite clearly in question.
