Liberty Tree T-Shirt
This Product is Discontinued
On August 14, 1765, the Sons of Liberty gathered in Boston under a large elm tree at the corner of Essex Street and Orange Street near Hanover Square to protest the hated Stamp Act. From that day onward, the tree became known as the "Liberty Tree." The tree was often decorated with liberty banners and lanterns. It became a rallying point for defiance to the British.
The Boston tree quickly became a symbol of liberty throughout the colonies and soon local patriots in each of the 13 colonies had named their own liberty tree. It was safer to meet under a tree than in a meeting house as unauthorized assembly could bring imprisonment and even death.
In 1775, during the siege of Boston, Loyalists and British troops defiantly cut down the tree – an act that would only help to strengthen the bonds of the colonists against tyranny.
The front of this shirt is Ranger Up’s representation of the Boston Liberty Tree, complete with a banner reading “Liberty or Death”. The back of the shirt showcases Thomas Jefferson’s famous quote, “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.” It is framed by muskets and rooted to the ground with tomahawks – a reminder that liberty exists only because we are willing to fight and die for it.
