No shit, there I was, in a gray uniform sweating my butt off, standing in formation with all these senior cadets running around yelling at me and my classmates for everything and anything they could find to yell at us about. Stress was high and I couldn't help but think "Man, this really sucks. I'd rather be fishing." Okay, I didn't think about fishing, but I WOULD have rather been fishing, or really doing anything else.

Suddenly, out of the corner of my eye I spotted a green suit. A SFC meandered up to our formation of new cadets. He was the real Army NCO in charge of our motley crew.

He paused in front of me and looked at us. I knew I was about to hear something profound. Something inspiring.

"Goddam," he started, "It's hotter than two rats fucking in a wool sock."

Holy shit.

I had just encountered by first NCOism and my first little taste of the creative awesomeness that military life would bring to my vernacular.

And you know what? It was the most perfect description of the relative heat of my situation possible.
